Election Notebooking pages - 2

Filed under: Free Notebooking Pages — Mom @ 3:04 pm

This week’s installment of election notebook pages focuses on the primary season. With “Super-duper Tuesday” coming up, I thought it would be fun to track the winners of each state and the delegate count for each candidate.

You may notice that for some states the Democratic Party has a delegate count of zero. This is not an error. Those states have been stripped of all their convention delegates as a punishment for changing the date of their primary election or caucus in a way that violated Democratic Party rules. So the Democratic Party will not allow those states a voice in choosing the Democratic presidential candidate this year.

  2. Wow, those look so awesome! Good stuff, thanks again for sharing them with us!

I still think you should print and publish the blanks yourself, if you’re willing to go through the hassle and expense to potentially make a profit, with books these days it’s more like a labor of love than a career choice. Your sheets are such a great tool and so very well done! Something to think about over the next four years at any rate…

  3. Thank you for your attractive work! I would like to encourage you to check out Ron Paul. He is a strong christian who is the only candidate who really supports home-schooling. His site and message there (ronpaul2008.com) show his record in congress for home-schoolers. Huckabee has had their support but also the NEA. Things have been so bad that Mary Pride, who in 22 years has never spoken out politically has written an article showing Huckabee’s bad record in AR for home-schoolers http://www.home-school.com/news/huckabee.html Thank you for your time.
    Sincerely,
    Susan Simpson

  4. Thank you all so much for your kind comments! It’s very gratifying to know that there are people out there who like these and find them useful.

Susy, I checked out your link, and those are some very cute books. Fortunately my career is already chosen and I’m loving it, but I may look into a sideline of publishing as life events allow. It’s something I’ve been interested in. Maybe you’ll be able to give me some pointers when the time comes.

Susan Simpson, welcome! It’s always nice to see a new face. I’ve been watching all the candidates and have been somewhat frustrated at making a choice. There are many things about Ron Paul which I admire and I agree with many of his ideals. I have some reservations, however, regarding whether he has a good grasp on the complexities of real life politics. For example, it’s one thing to say we should return to the gold standard, and quite another thing to be able to do it without crashing the economy completely. Unless he presents more specific plans regarding this sort of thing, as well as foreign policy, immigration, and some other things, I just don’t see myself voting for him. If it’s any consolation, I don’t like Huckabee either. And I think McCain is too hot-headed to make a good president (among other things). I’m still making up my mind, but I think I’ve about settled on Romney. I’d better decide soon, because we’re in one of the “Super Tuesday” states so time is running out.

  5. Wow! What a great resource! Thank you so much for all your work in putting this together. I will use it with my daughter, the last of my home-schoolers.

  6. Hey, I sent you an email but I haven’t heard back from you yet, could you delete my previous post please? I didn’t realize this was linked to somewhere else with such a large following, and I’d hate for what I said to get back to one of the nicest couples in the world by some misguided person who might think they were being helpful by pointing it out to them, you know what I mean…

I need to remember the immortal words of Thumper before I open my mouth: “If you can’t say sumpthin nice, don’t say nuthin at all!” Anyway, the main point of comparison is that your stuff is awesome, and thank you again for sharing!

  7. Sorry about that, Susy. I think my email is having “issues”. I’m getting TONS of spam, but the good stuff seems to be getting caught in a filter somewhere. Sigh.

Anyway, I edited your post. If this is insufficient and you want it removed entirely please let me know here, or give me a call (evil evil email!) and I’ll delete the whole thing.

  8. I just discovered your election pages. Thanks so much for sharing these so other families can use them. How generous of you. They’re great!

But the absence of Ron Paul on your primary and caucuses chart is all the more glaring since Rudy Giuliani made the cut but he isn’t even in the race anymore.

Would you mind if I posted a link to these on my blog so others can enjoy them? If you do mind, no problem!

    Thanks!

  13. Wow! What a great response! Thanks everyone!

    Let’s see…

Guinever—I know. isn’t it awful? At the time I made those particular pages the “experts” were saying that Giuliani was going to have a good showing in Florida, and Ron Paul was bringing in very small numbers and “they” thought he was going to drop out. So that’s what I went with. That’ll teach me to listen to “them”, eh? I keep debating whether to go back and fix it, but I’ve pretty much decided just to press on ahead instead. But absolutely feel free to paste a photo of Ron Paul over Giuliani’s mug. I won’t be the least bit offended. And thanks for stopping by!

Susy—No trouble at all. Sorry it took me so long. I’ll have Pop see if he can figure out what the deal is with my email, but at the moment he’s stressing over work and I don’t want to bug him with it until things slow down a little.

Lisa—You’re welcome. I’m pleased you like them.

Jackie—I would prefer that you link to my blog posts rather than straight to the pdf files, but yes, by all means link away!

  14. Hi, I just found your site today while looking for some election year material for my 4th grader. Will plan to check out the notebooking pages. How nice of you to share them! :)

I just wanted to post a question: why would you not like Huckabee? My family lives in Arkansas and has absolutely loved having him as governor! Even though he had to sign a law that increased homeschool regulation in 1998, it was a strategy to keep from having to sign a horrible homeschool law that would have taken state homeschool law back to even worse than the pre-1997 homeschool laws (which were very restrictive). He did so much for Arkansas homeschoolers. My family participated in a day at the state capitol in 2004 where Gov. Huckabee took the time to ask the name of each and every one of the homeschooled children in our group, as well as to go around and shake the hand of us parents. In fact, when he asked my son’s name, which is a Biblical name, Huckabee talked about the meaning of his name. I think he really cares about living his life in faith in God. I think it’s real. And isn’t that what we want for our kids? A real faith in God, that leads them to think creatively, to discern fairly, to care for everybody, like God does?

My husband has met him on two occasions during business-related functions, and has commented on how sincerely Mike Huckabee gives his attention to whomever he is speaking/listening to. Of course, he is absolutely pro-life (signed Arkansas’ partial-birth abortion ban) and pro-Biblical marriage (saw the “establishment” of Arkansas covenant marriages under his watch).

Jerry Cox, of The Education Alliance, a part of Family Council in Arkansas (a Focus on the Family group), and the state’s largest homeschooling organization, had written a couple of times in monthly letters how that when Huckabee was governor, at the state capitol it got to the point that state legislators did not even try to pass unfavorable or restrictive homeschool laws because they knew Huckabee would stand against them. There was never any doubt how much Huckabee supported homeschoolers. It was not just political talk; it was what he did in office.

I learned from The Education Alliance that Gov. Huckabee even signed the high school diplomas of homeschoolers while he was in office. Our new governor has had one graduation season to do so, but has not done so, even after being asked to do so by The Education Alliance, except that he signed the diploma of one forthright young man who took it upon himself to visit Gov. Beebe’s office and ask for his signature himself.

The Education Alliance would be a great organization to contact to get more information about Huckabee on homeschooling. One of their main responsiblities is to work day in and day out to guard homeschooler’s freedoms, especially to prevent bad homeschool law and to promote positive homeschool law. They would know where Huckabee stands and what the circumstances were surrounding the 1998 law that Huckabee signed (instead of the horrible one).

I hope you will take some time to look into this. There are many homeschoolers who, I think, should think about what they would do if they were in a similar position–pass a horrible bill or pass one that is FAR less limiting? Governors aren’t dictators, and they have to learn how to accomplish good for their citizens. The very thing you said about Ron Paul, not having a grasp of real life complexities of politics, is the very thing that Mike Huckabee does have. He is a good person, and that extends to more people than JUST homeschoolers, although we’re a pretty great bunch, and we have some of the most awesome ideas around!

Just some very passionate thoughts from my heart…because I think Huckabee is not getting a fair shake by some homeschoolers who aren’t considering what really happened in 1998 and what could have happened in 1998. And, also, respectfully, is Mitt Romney really the alternative? He is so liberal! How else could he have gotten elected in Massachusetts?!

Thanks for the time to read this. Hope you hear my heart on this. I’m just trying to bring some of my insight to the discussion here.

    We love Huckabee! www.MikeHuckabee.com

  15. Alphabet Soup, thanks for stopping by, and thanks for your clearly heart-felt comments. We will have to just agree to disagree about Huckabee. I can tell you like him a lot, but I’m afraid my aversion to him is possibly as strong as your passion for him. I do not think he is an honorable man. As far as Romney, I like his policy positions, I’m satisfied with his record, and I think the federal govt. could benefit from his experience revamping major organizations so that they function better. He’s also shown that he can work with both sides of the aisle and actually accomplish things and I think it would be nice for Washington to be able to work it’s way out of the animosity and gridlock that has been such a problem there lately. But my purpose here was not to start a political debate, but rather to share some neutral materials for people who wanted to study the election process, whichever candidate they favor. So I don’t really want to use this as a forum to push my own political leanings. May the best candidate win.
